Jay Bailey

Educator @ Voyageur Educational School Programs Ontario

As a retired French teacher and authentic voyageur, Jay has paddled over 4000 km on the fur trade routes of North America, mostly in birch bark canoes, bedroll on the ground, cold pea soup and bannock to eat, fires started with flint and steel. Since 1990, he has staged over 400 interactive, multidisciplinary, voyageur events in communities from Windsor to Vankleek Hill to Sault Ste. Marie and Winnipeg, bringing Canadian history and la joie de vivre Canadienne to our students. He engages the students in song, dance, games of strength and agility, furs, trade goods, size of canoes, the stature of voyageurs – in as much French as they can handle!
